From Land Cruisers to R34 Skylines — Japan's auto auctions are where the world's cleanest used cars are bought. A sample of what shows up week after week:
The forever 4×4. Japanese-market Land Cruisers come with clean service history and rust-free chassis — the ones global buyers fight for.
The JDM icon. Auction-grade R34s with verified mileage are the benchmark — and the auction hall is where every legitimate one trades.
The 2JZ legend. Unmodified, accident-free A80s surface almost exclusively at Japanese auto auctions — graded, photographed, documented.
Japan's everyday supercar. Low-mileage NSX examples appear weekly with full inspection sheets — condition you can read before you bid.
The rotary masterpiece. Auction sheets expose engine swaps and accident repairs instantly — exactly what you need to know on an FD.
Rally homologation, street price. Japan's auctions move dozens of STIs every week — the grade and mileage tell you which ones lived gently.
Over 100,000 vehicles cross the block every week across Japan's auction groups. auctions22 pulls upcoming lots and finished results from these halls into one searchable place:
Japan's largest auto-auction group — Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and 20+ sites moving tens of thousands of cars every week.
Toyota Auto Auction — the deepest pool of clean Toyota and Lexus dealer trade-ins, with full service history.
The nationwide used-car cooperative auctions — broad, varied inventory across every prefecture in Japan.
Honda's auction arm — where graded Civics, Type Rs and the occasional NSX cross the block.

Yokohama-area hall known for higher-end, modified and collector-grade vehicles.
| Grade | What it means |
|---|---|
| S / 6 | As new — delivery mileage, no visible wear |
| 5 | Excellent — very light use, no repairs needed |
| 4.5 | Very good — minor scratches at most |
| 4 | Good — visible but small blemishes |
| 3.5 | Average — noticeable scratches or small dents |
| 3 | Below average — cosmetic repairs likely |
| 2 | Poor — heavy wear, damage or corrosion |
| R / RA | Repaired accident history — disclosed on the sheet |
Alongside the overall grade, inspectors score interior and exterior A–D. A grade-4 car with an A interior is a different animal than one with a C — the sheet tells you which.
R-graded cars have repaired accident damage. Cheaper at the hammer — and disclosed up front, which is more than most classifieds can say.
The auction sheet is the whole game. Here's the shorthand you need to read one like a dealer:
The inspector's single condition score, S (as new) down to R/RA. Grade 4 and above is a clean, honest car.
Separate letter scores for cabin and bodywork, A best to D worst — read alongside the overall grade.
Repaired accident history, disclosed up front on the sheet. Cheaper at the hammer, and honest about it.
Japan's strict periodic roadworthiness inspection. Current shaken signals a maintained, road-legal car.
The sub-660cc light-vehicle class — cheap to run, tax-light and uniquely Japanese.
The odometer reading recorded and checked by the auction, in kilometres — not a seller's claim.
The inspector's diagram: grade, interior/exterior scores and a map of every dent, scratch and repair.
Shorthand on the sheet — PS power steering, PW power windows, AW alloys, SR sunroof, leather, nav and more.
Japan's wholesale auto auctions (USS, TAA, JU and others) are where most used vehicles in Japan change hands — well over 100,000 cars cross the block every week. Each car is independently inspected, graded and photographed before it sells, which is why Japan auction cars are the most transparently documented used vehicles in the world.
Every lot carries an overall grade from S (as new) down to R/RA (repaired accident damage), plus letter scores for interior and exterior condition. The grade comes from an independent inspector, not the seller — grade 4 and above generally means a clean, honest car.
Low mileage, meticulous maintenance culture, strict shaken roadworthiness inspections, and models that were never sold outside Japan — Skylines, Supras, kei trucks, JDM-spec everything. Auction grading means you know the condition before you commit.
